terra0 is the concept of a self-owned forest; an ongoing art project that strives to set up a prototype of a self-utilization piece of land. terra0 creates a framework whereby a forest is able to sell licences to log its own trees through automated processes and smart contracts. In doing so, this forest accumulates capital. A shift from valorisation through third parties to a self-utilization makes it possible for the forest to procure its real exchange value. With this capital it buys itself from the project initiators and own itself. The augmented forest, as owner of itself, is in the position to buy more ground and therefore to expand. The initial proposal imagined a forest (a piece of woodland) to be managed by a smart contract without human oversight - to get the human out of the loop. The rules of this decentralized program should have provided economic sustainability (paying fo its own infrastructure) through minimal self utilization.
